From outside to inside
On Thursday Jan 22nd, I gave my notice to Hilton Garden Inn as a shuttle driver. That's enough!! I know I've done that before but this time I really mean it. The whole idea of driving eight hours in the peak season and loading and unloading tonnes of luggage just doesn't interest me at $9.25 per hour. (regardless of tips)!
I had three options, remember? Superintendent of an apartment complex in downtown Halifax; Customer Support Tech at TeleTech Holdings; or Hilton Shuttle driver. After careful comparison - the TeleTech won - the wage is higher ($11/hour), it is inside and it doesn't half kill me while on the job. I am not 22 anymore and I just had to come to that realization.
The pros won out based on time with my children (joint custody) and time for a life based on my needs. I had over 28 years of computer experience and customer service skills acquired through several jobs so it fits nicely as a pre-retirement job.
So one more shift today, a couple days off and 5 shifts next week will close that book and move me onward and upward into the next chapter.
Changes - seems to be the way of my life. (Might be the name of my book someday too :))
Take care everyone.
Paul
