Are you getting vacation time you deserve?
Vacation is a term used in English-speaking North America to describe a lengthy time away from work or school, a trip abroad, or simply a pleasure trip away from home, such as a trip to the beach that lasts several days or longer. (Wikipedia).
Notice that? Several days .. not just a day. I remember taking vacations around my normal shifts. So in effect I never did get a vacation and the company never paid out my vacation pay back to me. So I learned quickly that the 15 or 20 days I had should include shifts I would have normally worked that week or two. That made it truly a vacation.
I can remember feeling guilty I was leaving my post for vacation - but in retrospect I sure am glad I did or I would have burned out.
What is my message here? Take time off .. whether you are full-time, part-time or work @home. Get away from your work and play a little and for more than a single day. If your business requires that your inbox or to-do list be completed even when you are away, have someone do it for you at a low fee, so you can relax.
My line of work now is Tours and Site-seeing. I work in a perfect industry because my days on are really trips away. My days off are to relax before the next "vacation" trip. Try to find work or an occupation that lets you truly enjoy what you are doing and actually makes you feel guilty that you are getting paid to be on "vacation".
If you don't have such a job - book time off today - you deserve it - winters are long - and look around you - everyone else is taking time off, why not you?
Have an awesome summer.
Paul
