@home in your car

Couriers and self-employment?

Hi everyone.. hey.. 25 days to Christmas.. are you ready? Neither am I .. ha ha

I found a most amazing angle to 'self-employment' and @home working using your own car as your 'home'.

If you like to drive and want to write off expenses to save on income taxes, here's what I found. In Canada you can claim a business expense for all the work you do from your car if you are paid for it. I applied to several Courier Companies here in Halifax/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and the one I liked the most was Apple Courier. I talked to them, told them when I was available and what kind of car I had and they offered me a 'job'. I'll get a walkie talkie/dispatch unit which will allow me to get work, and a GPS unit so they will know where I am so I can stay within an area to get the most done in the fastest time.

Here is the great part.. all my car expenses - loan payment, gas, insurance, bridge/road tolls, and service/repairs are all deductable as an expense against my income at the end of the year.

So in essence I am a 'self-employed courier' working for a 'well known' courier company with guaranteed business and no management headaches. All I need to do is make sure I have workmans compensation coverage and a clean drivers abstract.

This may not appeal to everyone, but for 5 days a week (or whatever you are able to do part-time even), from 8-5 you can earn 70% commissions (in this case anyways) on the delivery and pickup of parcels within your very own city. No sitting at a cubicle or being stuck in the office.

I'll be @home in my car - sure eliminates office politics unless I have a problem with the news on the radio.

ReFocus! Work @home (wherever that might be).

Have a great holiday season everyone.

Paul
